Students Honour Our Anzacs
Victory College's Year 10 students ventured to their camp recently at Adventure Education Group "Emu Gully" near Toowoomba where they were expecting three days of fun and exciting activities. This leadership camp offered so much more than just excitement! Centred around epic ANZAC events, the students were inspired by stories of young ANZACs sacrificing their lives for our nation as they walked in their paths delivering medicine and mail in the Siege of Tobruk, creeping through dark and narrow tunnels like the Tunnel rats of Vietnam, crossing the Bridge over the River Kwai or struggling through the Kokoda Track. By the final activity, the night walk, where a fellow mate had to be carried on a stretcher through treacherous obstacles and over steep hills, Victory College students had gained a deep understanding and appreciation of the ANZAC spirit of endurance, courage and mateship. Reflecting back on their life at College, they mutually agreed on becoming student ANZACs themselves; a team that listens to each other and doesn't leave any mates behind. Students now have a greater understanding of what our Anzacs went through.
The students have learnt about and internalised the concept of honour which is just another one of those values that has become a casualty in today's modern society. Students have learnt that honour is a strong force and if there is no honour, there is no power in their lives, their homes, their cities and their nation.
