Students who are members of the Victory College chess team develop chess skills and strategies and participate in inter-school competitions.
The Chess team meets every Thursday afternoon from 3pm – 4pm.
Why chess? Because it’s helps develop observation and planning skills.
Students are encouraged to participate in public speaking competitions throughout the year as well as Youth of the Year through Lions, Quota, Rotary and Zonta organisations.
Students from Victory College compete each year in the Tournament of Minds competitions. The College enters both Primary and Secondary Maths Challenge teams. https://www.tom.edu.au
Students are encouraged to participate in the University of New South Wales International Competitions and Assessments for Schools, which is conducted by Educational Assessment Australia, UNSW. https://www.eaa.unsw.edu.au/icas/about
Ten countries now participate in ICAS. In Australia and New Zealand there are over 1.7 million entries. ICAS papers assess the skills students require to address the curriculum of each of the subject areas. ICAS test items are mapped to the curriculum of every Australian state and territory ensuring the relevance of ICAS test content.
Every student receives detailed diagnostic paper and online reports (myICAS) measuring their progress from previous years and a UNSW certificate acknowledging their level of achievement. For more information visit UNSW ICAS
