Students at Victory College are encouraged to follow their passions in cultural studies as it contributes to their overall development and achievement.

Music

Music is an integral part of the school’s fabric, with all students in Prep to Year 6 participating in weekly music lessons. Music can also be chosen as an elective subject for Years 7-10.

The College offers a music course for Year 11 and 12 students with five lessons a week. Students will perform their chosen instrument or voice, rehearse as a member of an ensemble and compose and record music as part of the learning program.

There is also a strong extra-curricular music program on offer at the school where students can join our award-winning:

  • Choirs
  • Chapel Band
  • Percussion Group
  • Jazz Ensemble

Students can also participate in the instrumental program run by qualified music teachers who give weekly individual or small group instruction. Instruments include piano, guitar, percussion, strings, brass and woodwind. See the Victory Arts section for more details and enrolment forms.

Dance

Victory College offers after-school dance classes as part of our Victory Arts program. Victory Arts Dance runs safe and caring classes, ensuring that all classes and performances are age appropriate. We encourage every student to develop a love of dance, as well as nurture the professional technique and skills required to reach their potential.

Our passionate and qualified teachers provide each student the opportunity to develop skills and reach their personal best in an enjoyable, stimulating and Christian environment. Classes are conducted after school, on campus at Victory College. More information about classes and enrolment forms can be found below.

Drama

Drama can be chosen as an elective subject for Years 7-10. It provides the fundamentals of theatre. (Students who are interested in drama may also be interested in media studies).

Every second year Victory College puts on a Secondary production for the community.

There is also a Primary Speech Choir (whereby students undertake verse speaking in groups) and in the weekly primary chapel services, students can perform on stage.

Visual Arts

Visual Arts is taught through Primary and is also offered in Senior as part of the curriculum.

Our aim is:

  • To provide your child with a quality arts education.
  • To reach the community through various arts related events.
  • To encourage and foster your child’s creativity.
  • To instil a lifelong appreciation and participation in the arts and learning.

The College supports the ethos of the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority and the syllabus is aligned accordingly with the specific arts outcomes and standards relative to the appropriate grades.

Students are taught a variety of media areas such as:

  • drawing
  • painting
  • sculpture
  • ceramics
  • print making
  • digital photography
  • digital art/design

Within these media areas an assortment of subject matter and techniques are explored.

Visual Arts is offered in Years 7-12.

Digital Art is offered in Years 9-10.

Visual Art in Practice is offered in Years 11 and 12.

Students can exhibit their art around the school and in the community (at the Gympie Show) and a selection of art works are featured in Gympie Regional Library.

What are the performance opportunities for Victory Arts students?

Victory College has a wealth of performance opportunities throughout the year for Victory Arts students of all levels and all disciplines. In fact, at Victory, we believe that performing artists should be just that… performers!

Shared or Individual lessons?
Music

Thirty-minute lessons are given to individual students or to two students who share the lesson. The shared lesson gives students the opportunity to learn at a reduced cost while enjoying the benefits of a small group environment.

It is recommended that students who are more advanced have an individual lesson with the teacher so that more focus can be directed to individual needs and the student can learn at their own pace. After the initial learning stages, students can consider undertaking music exams as the exam recognises a national standard of achievement and creates a timeframe for the work to be completed. Students preparing for exams must have an individual lesson.

Dance

Our dance lessons vary from 30mins to 60 mins, depending on each class.
